Single Subject Acceleration: - Students meeting qualifying criteria in grades K‐7 can take advanced academic content in mathematics or English Language Arts through Single Subject Acceleration (SSA). - This ensures opportunities for appropriate levels of academic challenge. - Only students who are currently enrolled and attending a WCPSS school during the open nomination and testing window are eligible to be considered for SSA.
Does My Child Qualify? - SSA allows students to show mastery of content in select elementary or middle school courses. Students who prove mastery do not have to take the course and may move on to the next level. - Parents may nominate their child to skip a grade level of content in either English Language Arts or mathematics. - Students are nominated for SSA by their parents or guardians. - They will be assessed at their school based upon grade level.
Test Requests and Testing Windows - Parents must submit an online SSA test request form during specific WCPSS calendar deadlines. - The SSA test request window opens at 8:00 AM on April 1, 2024. - The test request form closes at 5:00 PM April 12, 2024. - New test requests cannot be accepted before or after the dates set by WCPSS.
If your child has qualified for SSA at Farmington Woods: - Students will leave their homeroom and be assigned to a teacher at the next grade level for their SSA instruction. - Math and ELA are not taught at the same times across all grade levels. - Your child will receive their schedule, designed by Mrs. Pierce, at the start of the school year. - SSA students may have schedule changes including, but not limited to, Lunch/Recess and/or Specials (Art, Music, PE, Language) with a different grade level above or below your child's grade level, and independent work in the classroom to complete what may have been missed when the child is participating in their SSA content area. - For 5th grade students who qualify for 6+ Math or 6 ELA, they are assigned to a middle school teacher and access their content through Canvas online in the classroom during the 5th grade math and/or ELA block. This is asynchronous instruction delivery (not instruction through live meets). Students work independently to complete the tasks assigned weekly.
