AIG Nominations
Who can be nominated?

Who can be nominated?
- Any student can be nominated.
- The SBCGE (School Based Committee for Gifted Education) reviews all parent nominations.
- The SBCGE can refer a child for evaluation if the existing data shows a need for referral.
- 4th and 5th grade students: Nominations are accepted all year
- CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) and Iowa testing for students referred for evaluation by the SBCGE happens twice a year.
- Fall Testing Window: October 16 - 27, 2023
- Spring Testing Window: January 29 - February 9, 2024
- The SBCGE can also recommend students for AIG Identification throughout the school year using the portfolio process and multiple points of data (no additional testing required).
- CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) and Iowa testing for students referred for evaluation by the SBCGE happens twice a year.
- 3rd grade students: Nominations are accepted all year.
- All third grade students will take the CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) test in first semester. The CogAT testing window is October 30 - November 15, 2023.
- Students who score at/above the 85th percentile on the CogAT will be administered the Iowa test with parent permission. The SBCGE can also refer students for Iowa testing . The Iowa testing window is December 4 - 15, 2023.
- The SBCGE can recommend students for AIG identification through test scores or the portfolio process.
- Kindergarten, First, and Second grade students: Nominations are accepted all year.
- The SBCGE can refer a student for evaluation when there is evidence that the student is performing one to two years above grade level.
- If referred for evaluation, students must then score 98-99th percentile on aptitude and achievement testing for early AIG identification.

Transfer Students
- AIG transfer reciprocity is for students who who have been previously identified in a gifted program and are now residents of Wake County.
- Your child must be enrolled in his/her WCPSS school before starting the transfer reciprocity process.
