AIG Academically/Intellectually Gifted Program and TD/Talent Development Service
- In grades 4 and 5, AIG program service starts once a student is identified.
- For our students identified in third grade, AIG program service starts before Quarter 4.
- Students can be AG, IG, or AIG identified within the AIG program in reading and/or math.
- Service is the same for all students in the AIG program regardless of AG, IG, or AIG identification.
- Service for all students identified in the AIG program continues as long as the students is enrolled in WCPSS.
- If not identified, students can also be recommended for Talent Development (TD) in ELA and/or Math.
- Talent Development (TD) students receive service with their AIG program peers.
- Service: 45 minutes/once per week in each identified area (ELA and/or Math).
- Students consistently work at the highest levels of thinking, using the 21st Century Skills 4C's framework: collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking.
- The attributes of the IB Learner Profile are an integral part to achieving the goals outlined on each child's Differentiated Education Plan.
- The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) has initiated the Portrait of a Graduate (POG) skills that are integrated into AIG/TD service. The Portrait identifies seven skills that students should possess upon graduation from high school in order to thrive in a 21st century place of work - be it college, career, or military.
AIG/TD Curriculum Resources
Curriculum resource books used to provide differentiated instruction to AIG learners at FWES have been provided by WCPSS to all AIG elementary school programs and are aligned with the NC Standard Course of Study and WCPSS curriculum standards. Please contact Mrs. Rowe if you have questions about the text resources below that can be used in the pullout classes.
- ELA - Jacob's Ladder Fiction and Non-Fiction texts can be aligned with the grade level EL texts.
- MATH - Singapore Math extension and enrichment units can be aligned with the grade level units of study.
- Books in use at FWES may be an earlier edition than the photo below.
- In addition, I use a variety of games to support our students in the 4C's: Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Communication, and Creativity. These activities are used as a provocation to a Standard Course of Study Curriculum goal (for example: Math - fractions and decimals, area/perimeter, volume; ELA - narrative, opinion, and informational writing). See games below.
