Quarters 1 & 2 - Explorers Program for all third grade students -The AIG teacher provides a variety of experiences in ELA and in Math for ALL students. -Student also receive practice in CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) subtest skills. -Some student may demonstrate a need for an Explorers small group unit of study.
Quarters 1 & 2 - Testing -All third grade students will take the CogAT test in first semester. -The CogAT testing window is October 30 - November 15, 2023. -Students who score at/above the 85th percentile on the CogAT will be administered the Iowa test with parent permission. The SBCGE can also refer students for Iowa testing. The Iowa testing window is December 4 - 15, 2023. The SBCGE can recommend students for AIG identification through test scores or the portfolio process.
Quarter 3 - AIG and Talent Development nomination/referral/identification -Small group Explorers in ELA and/or Math continues, with student participation determined classroom performance. -AIG Nominations can come from teachers, parents, and/or students. -Nominations are reviewed by the SBCGE (School Based Committee for Gifted Education). -If current data supports the nomination, students can be referred for further evaluation by the SBCGE. -After evaluation, students can be AIG identified or recommended for Talent Development in reading and/or math.
Quarter 4 - Service starts for AIG and Talent Development identified students -WCPSS elementary service consists of one 45 minute class per area, once a week. -Service for identified students continues as long as the students is enrolled in WCPSS. -Talent development students are not AIG identified, but receive service with identified students through fifth grade.
